Sports media is an incredibly competitive landscape and Pac-12 Networks wanted to create an event centric web solution optimized for mobile that could keep up with its fast paced, multi-media, and mobile-friendly sports news coverage, while shining a brighter light on all Pac-12 events by allowing fans to view and engage with content anywhere. Pac-12 Networks wanted the new network of athletic sites to focus on five key areas: team information, video, mobile optimization, social media and engagement, and content creation.
Displaying live video and recorded highlighted game footage was a critical function for the new Pac-12.com site. They needed a sophisticated, yet reliable tool to help structure and deliver this content. We implemented an integration with Ooyala, a third-party video platform that allows Pac-12 Networks to seamlessly display high-quality video directly on the site, and automatically store video locally in the CMS. This allows content administrators the ability to attach metadata internally, making it easy to find and reference video in the CMS. With the custom video integration in place, content editors have the power to provide fans with relevant video content and sports news all in one place.
The sites theme was based on Foundation 4 framework to create an immersive responsive experience. All Pac-12 sports news and video can be easily viewed and interacted with on any mobile device.
Scores, standings, and stats are integrated into the CMS with a custom API that we worked with Pac-12 Networks developers to create. We then integrated this data into the CMS, ingesting the stats and standings so that they are tagged, and displayed appropriately in real time for each team page. Now Pac-12 fans can watch their favorite team in action on Pac-12 event pages, while engaging in team news, statistics and standings before, during and after the game.
On the administrator side, the CMS creates a central command center for all Pac-12 assets to be stored and managed easily on one system. With a strong workflow and intuitive layout infrastructure using WorkBench Moderation and Panalizer, site administrators can easily access all Pac-12 assets and publish timely curated content.
