Describe the Project (Goals, Requirements, and Outcome):
Level Up Tuts serves as a hub for over 460 free web development tutorials hosted on Youtube. The site needed to be able to also account for a user forum and premium subscription based accounts. The site is constantly staying in sync with the Level Up Tuts Youtube channel making sure that playlists and videos are up to date. The site has been a very successful home base for the Level Up Tuts Youtube Channel as it grows with each week.
Why Drupal Was Chosen:
Drupal was chosen because of it's robust and flexible content-type configuration. Because Level Up Tuts creates many videos a week, we used contrib modules like Feeds to be able to automate the publication of each video. Drupal was the only CMS that could have handled the custom needs of a site like Level Up Tuts. Also, the very flexible user roles and permissions allowed for a premium subscription service which is a very important part of the site overall.
Key Modules, Theme, and Distribution Used:
Omega 4, Feeds, Views, Stripe, Flags.
Why these Modules, Theme, and Distribution were Chosen:
Omega 4 is an amazing base theme using Sass extension like Singularity and Breakpoint to create a truly custom grid and layout. Omega 4 gives you structure and nothing else, it stays out of the way and allows you to create flexible custom themes.
Feeds is the main content creator on the site and has been very reliable. Stripe handles the payments for the subscriptions, Views powers pretty much every single page, Flags are used for the user voting for new topics.
