Describe the Project (Goals, Requirements, and Outcome):
KI aims to be one of the leading universities in the world , which also shines through on the Web. Last year KI had 1.4 million visitors to the site , making it their largest communication channel with the outside world.
With the new site, visitors get a better and more accurate view of all that KI has to offer. KI has over 10 000 internal users, the new site gives them new opportunities to present themselves to the outside world via individual profile pages. There is also integrations with systems of personal data and a publication database for researchers. In time, it can also serve as a resume and be used internally for networking and social functions.
The site was developed at Organic groups to support micro sites for the different departments.
In efforts to develop new ki.se has, a brand new search engine (Solr search) has been developed which responds better to the needs of findability throughout all of KI's sites.
Why Drupal Was Chosen:
KI made a comparison of numerous CMSs before making a decision. Drupal met their needs best and therefore it was chosen. KI already use Drupal for their staff web so it made sense to use the same CMS since there will be some integration between the two.
Key Modules, Theme, and Distribution Used:
Organic Groups, Work bench, Solr Search, Feeds, Views, Media and many more.
Theme used is "Happy theme", flexible enough to make it an outstanding experience throughout all screen sizes.
Why these Modules, Theme, and Distribution were Chosen:
Since the start we planned to have many sites within the site, for example for all of KIs departments, but also the news site. Each "site" would have it's own editors and work on their own sites. Therefore Organic Groups was perfect. Also to better the editors experience, WorkBench provides a simple and easy-to-use content overview.
